A modest extension to the lower ground floor of a Victorian house adjacent to a Conservation area in Hammersmith & Fulham.
This project provides a new kitchen and dining room in a brick-built volume, which accentuates a step up from the interior floor level to the garden level. Built-in seating is set at the level of the garden which brings an idea of sitting in the landscape to the interior of the project. The simple volume includes carefully placed internal and external windows which provide views of the garden to the living room, and through the nursery to the hallway. A rooflight brings daylight into the living room.
A relatively heavy entablature with a dog tooth corbel aims to create a visual beam which helps to deal with the wide expanse of brickwork over the large glazed opening.
