Kyverdale Road

New build house Stoke Newington, London

In collaboration with ARCHEA

This project first gained planning permission in 2003 to a design by another firm of architects for the previous site owner. Following their purchase of the wedge-shaped site our clients, the couple behind design agency Rude, appointed us in 2011 to take the project through to completion. We redesigned the structure as the previous design had been uneconomic to build, and made alterations to the internal layout, adding internal windows to improve the spatial connections and creating raw, characterful spaces. The new house replaces a small workshop and provides the client with a 4 bedroom dwelling with a double height living area and external terraces.

Working alongside our collaborating architect we led on the detailed design and specification, a competitive tender and administration of the construction contract. The house was complete in late 2013.

Externally the building is finished in white masonry with bronze anodised aluminium composite windows and a zinc-clad top floor. Internally the design revolves around the reinterpretation of basic practical materials such as exposed blockwork, corbelled to support first floor joists, MDF joinery and exterior concrete pavers on the hallway floor.
