Alteration of a holiday home on the Donegal coast, to provide further accommodation on the ground floor and in the attic. The original house was built in 1950s by the client’s parents who were an architect and engineer.
The entrance porch will be sensitively glazed in to form a dining area which will remain visually distinct externally, and a new veranda and patio will guide visitors to the new entrance at the side of the house. Upstairs the rooms will be completely reconfigured to accommodate a second bathroom and the staircase to the new second floor. A landing will run from front to back, giving on to the spectacular view. On the second floor the roof ties will be left exposed and simply whitewashed, allowing the rooms to be open high up into the ridge of the roof and maintaining a distinct attic-like atmosphere.
