Complete refurbishment of an end of terrace townhouse in Islington which was built in the early 1990s. The project aims to give the rather unfashionable architectural style of the host building increased validity. In referencing early modernism and classic design of the last century we aim to give the interior an authority which more firmly situates the exterior expression of the building in a historical context. Moves are made spatially to open up the ‘piano nobile’ as an elegant single space, and large glazed doors to the new studio (previously a garage) allow light to flood into the previously dark hallway. A new shower room allows the ground floor to function as a self contained guest suite.
