A modest extension to the lower ground floor of a Victorian house in a Conservation area in Hackney.
The project mediates between the house and garden by extending a suite of rooms from the front of the property, to the end of the garden. The new internal room is a solid masonry landscape object, retaining the earth of the garden whilst providing an external sitting room above which extends the ground floor plan out and down the steps to the garden. Large openings allow views across the patio between the new room and the kitchen. Gentle, planted steps rise from the patio to the garden.
